Les
Voitures à Transformation from Spring 2013 Collection.
Designe by Françoise de la Perrière
The Émile Hermès collection contains an impressive number of works
highlighting themes close to the heart ofthe house of Hermès, including
transport and travel in style, celebrated here in a carré presented like a page
from a carriage catalogue of old, inspired by a handful of vehicles using woven
cane panels, with the additional advantage of folding hoods… Berlins, coupés
and barouche carriages share the compositional square. The first, named
for the city that ‘invented’ them, is ideal for urban use and touring. Reliable
and comfortable, they are similar in appearance to traditional carriages.
Coupés – known for a time in French as berlingots (‘baby Berlins’) – opt for
two seats instead of four, and take up less space. Originating in central
Europe, barouches feature folding hoods, making them ideal for elegant outings
when the weather turns fine, and urban society takes to its tree-lined avenues
and drives, where smart promenaders go to see and be seen…
